INFRARED SAUNA

NATURAL HEALING FOR THE WHOLE BODY

WHAT IS INFRARED SAUNA THERAPY AND ITS BENEFITS?

Our sauna uses infrared light wavelengths that exist on the invisible spectrum of light and cannot be seen with the human eye, but can be felt as heat. It is a dry, constant, gentle and radiant heat. These infrared waves of light penetrate deeply into and past the skin into the soft tissues of the body. When the body is exposed to these infrared waves, blood circulation improves and is then able to deliver oxygen and nutrients at a faster rate to the vital organs, brain, joints, muscles, skeletal structure, and skin. An increased level of oxygen running through the body reduces inflammation and promotes cell renewal. Inflammation occurs in the body as a response to injury, stress, and illness.

Whether you are looking to release tension, detoxify the body, lower your blood pressure, relieve minor aches and pains related to chronic conditions such as fibromyalgia, stimulate collagen production, heal wounds faster and/or increase your immune system, your 30 – 45 minute infrared sauna therapy session can be customized to meet your needs.

Benefits can include:

Heart Health

A BRIEF HISTORY

Saunas had been around for centuries as an ancient method of cleansing the body. They were unbearably hot, steamy rooms in which breathing could be difficult. As science and technology evolved, so did the sauna. It was discovered that use of a specific wavelength from the sun could be harnessed into a soothing, effective, and healing light therapy. The infrared sauna was then created.

FAQS

WHAT DO I WEAR?

Lightweight shorts, t-shirt and/or sports bra is fine. A bathing suit is better. Wearing nothing at all is best! The more skin you have exposed, the better. It is easier to wipe away sweat when there is nothing in the way.

WHAT DO I BRING?

Other than what you choose to wear inside the sauna, we will provide everything else. This includes 2-3 towels and a robe. There will be one towel to sit on or lay on; one towel to help wipe off and absorb perspiration as it accumulates on your body so that you sweat more; and one towel placed under your feet to catch any perspiration that might otherwise fall to the sauna floor.

HOW IS AN IR SAUNA DIFFERENT FROM A CONVENTIONAL STEAM SAUNA?

Answer to come...

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I USE THE INFARED SAUNA?

At the very minimum the infrared sauna therapy should be practiced once a month. This is considered “maintenance” and is great for a deep relaxation session. Initially, most find success with 2-3 times a week that then progresses to a once a weekly (or month) maintenance program depending upon your wellness goals. We always recommend a Free Consultation with our knowledgeable staff to best guide you in your decision making.

HOW IS AN INFRARED SAUNA DIFFERENT FROM A TRADITIONAL SAUNA?

A traditional sauna heats the air around you, making it difficult to breathe and merely asking your skin to sweat. Whereas an infrared sauna uses infrared waves to penetrate beyond the skin level and are absorbed by the cells. This induces deep detoxification and relaxation rather than simply making it difficult to breathe. When sweating in an infrared sauna, your sweat is composed of 20% toxins versus only 3% in a traditional sauna.

HOW HOT IS THE INFRARED SAUNA?

Infrared heat is gentle and most effective at a comfortable operating temperature of 100 degrees to 150 degrees fahrenheit. The experience is much like laying out in the sun on a warm day and feeling the heat radiate your body.

HOW LONG IS A SAUNA SESSION?

A sauna session is 45-50 minutes.

WHAT CAN I DO IN THE SAUNA?

What you do in the sauna is up to you. Perhaps stretch, massage congested and “knotty” muscle areas, massage the area around old injuries to help bring more oxygen to the damaged area, play music, read a book, listen to a podcast or simply sit back and relax.

HOW MUCH WILL I SWEAT?

You may not sweat a lot during your first 2-3 sauna sessions. This is normal for many people, as they haven’t had a recent history of sweating, and it takes a few sessions to “retrain” the body/lymph system to do what comes naturally. Over time, you will begin to sweat more quickly and at a lower temperature setting as your body adjusts to your regular sauna routine. –Dr. J.H. Halperin, Professor of Internal Medicine, Mount Sinai Medical Center.

WHEN DO I SHOWER AFTER THE SAUNA?

After you arrive home, and you have cooled down, you can take a warm shower. Be sure to exfoliate your skin to thoroughly clean and remove sweat residue, old skin cells and any toxins that have risen to the surface of your skin. Once your body is thoroughly clean, cool the shower to help cool down your body completely and close the skin pores.

HOW DOES THE SAUNA HELP WITH DETOXIFICATION?

Sweating is good for you. It is the body’s safe and natural way to heal and stay healthy. Infrared sauna detoxification happens by heating the body directly, causing a rise in core temperature. This results in a deep, detoxifying sweat at the cellular level, where toxins reside. Detoxification strengthens the body’s immune system and helps the body’s biochemical processes function efficiently so that we are better able to digest the nutrients in our foods. Detoxification has also been shown to be helpful with colitis, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, auto-immune disease, immune deficiency states, autism, ADD and ADHD.

HOW DOES THE SAUNA HELP WITH PAIN RELIEF?

Infrared sauna heat penetrates tissue, joints and muscles to relieve anything from minor aches and pains to chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia. Pain management professionals incorporate infrared sauna heat therapy into treatment plans to decrease pain and muscle spasms and to speed up recovery time.

HOW DOES THE SAUNA HELP WITH SKIN PURIFICATION?

As part of a sauna skin therapy program, infrared saunas help restore skin to a youthful appearance. Our saunas are designed so that the skin on your entire body – from face to feet – will benefit from a sauna therapy session. The near infrared wavelengths are the most effective wavelengths for healing the epidermis and dermis layers of the skin. Near infrared treatments stimulate collagen production to reduce wrinkles and improve overall skin tone. Far infrared wavelengths target deeper down, removing toxins that can have a negative impact on your skin.

HOW DOES THE SAUNA HELP WITH CIRCULATION?

Infrared therapy is like giving yourself a passive cardio workout – whenever you need it! Heating the muscles with infrared rays produces an increase in blood flow similar to that seen during exercise. Regular infrared sauna use – especially in the mid infrared range – can significantly stimulate blood flow up to twice the normal rate.

HOW DOES THE SAUNA HELP WITH BLOOD PRESSURE?

Clinical research shows a reduction in systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Both are key factors in maintaining a healthy heart. Our infrared sauna induces a deep sweat to make the heart pump faster, which in turn increases blood flow, lowers blood pressure and helps circulation. Scientific evidence shows that using an infrared sauna a couple times a week lowers blood pressure.

HOW DOES THE SAUNA HELP WITH RELAXATION?

Unlike traditional saunas which operate at extremely harsh temperatures, infrared is a gentle, soothing and therapeutic heat that promotes relaxation and improved sleep. Infrared sauna benefits include therapy that helps you relax while receiving an invigorating deep-tissue sweat, leaving you fully refreshed after each session.

HOW DOES THE SAUNA HELP WITH IMMUNE SYSTEM SUPPORT?

Spending regular time in an infrared sauna can also help boost your immune system. Infrared saunas raise core body temperature, helping to keep the immune system strong and in good working order.

HOW DOES THE SAUNA HELP WITH WEIGHT LOSS?

Our infrared saunas promote weight loss by detoxifying the body and burning calories while you relax in total comfort. Studies have shown that benefits of an infrared sauna session can burn upwards of 600 calories while you relax! As the body works to cool itself, there is a substantial increase in heart rate, cardiac output and metabolic rate, causing the body to burn more calories.

WHAT DO I DO AFTER THE SAUNA SESSION?

When you finish your sauna session, it is important to relax and cool down while your body continues to release toxins. If you still have time, you can remain in our private sauna room and sit quietly with a towel or robe around you for about 10 minutes, or until you cease perspiring all together. After your time is complete, you are welcome to sit in our “relax and recovery” area and enjoy some tea and cool water.

HOW WILL I FEEL AFTER THE SAUNA?

After your first few sessions, you may experience some temporary “flare-ups” associated with eliminating toxic substances, healing chronic infections or metabolic changes in the body. They are an important function of all deep healing methods. These short-lived “flare-ups” are generally mild and are a positive sign that deep healing is occurring. Symptoms may include a headache, muscle pain, odors, and fatigue. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, drink water and lie down and rest until the symptoms abate.
